Class - IV Mathematics – Subtraction

Solution

  1. Fill in the blanks with suitable words:

    1. 750889 On subtracting 38561 from 789450, we get 750889.

    2. Minuend. The larger number from which a smaller number is subtracted is called the minuend.

    3. Difference. The answer to a subtraction problem is called difference.

    4. 52382, 77987 - 52382 = 25605

    5. 1, The smallest 5 digit number is 10000 - largest  digit number is 9999 = 1

  2. State whether each of the following statement is True or False:

    1. True,
      Sum of 24726 and 465291 = 490017
      Sum of 22410 and 324104 = 346514
      Difference = 490017 - 346514 = 143503

    2. False
      53000 + 6000 + 120 = 59120
      15000 + 8600 + 260 + 15 = 23875
      59120 - 23875 = 35245

    3. False 5000 - 500 = 4500

    4. True

    5. False
      Minuend = 314653
      Subtrahend = 86104
      Difference = 314653 - 86104 = 228549

  3. (d) 1680 square unit
Explanation: 7840 - 6160 = 1680. They have given the area of the square is 7840 square units and the area of the circle is 6160 square units. The circle is inside the square and we have to find the area of the remaining region. So that we will subtract the area of both to find the solution.
  4. (b) 40
Explanation: No of rocks collected  = 58
No of rocks given to friend = 18
    No of rocks left over with Juan = 58 - 18 = 40 rocks
  5. (d) 62
    Explanation: 12518 -  12456 = 62
  6. (a) 2692 votes
Explanation: 5575 - 2883 = 2692. They have asked us to find the number of more votes got by winning candidate compared to the nearest rival candidate. So we have to find the difference between the number of votes got by 2 candidates.
  7. (d) 139446
    Explanation: 139446 is the correct answer. 378982 - 126781 - 112755 = 139446
  8. (a) - (iii), (b) - (i), (c) - (iv), (d) - (ii)

  9. Money deposited in bank = Rs 199890
Money withdrew from bank = Rs 89785
    Then, the remaining balance = 199890 - 89795 = 110095

  10. Total journey = 8473 km
distance covered by train = 4253 km
    then, distance covered by car = 8473 - 4253 = 4220 km
So, 4220 km he covered by car.

    1. 1091 - 1000 ___ 90 + 1
      1091 - 1000 = 91 and 90 + 1 = 91
      So, 1091 - 1000 = 90 + 1
    2. 5968 - 200 ___ 4000 + 1625
      5968 - 200 = 5768 and 4000 + 1625 = 5625
      So, 5968 - 200 > 4000 + 1625
    3. 736 + 100 ___ 936
      736 + 100 = 836
      So, 736 + 100 < 936
    4. 1235 + 65 ___ 1300
      1235 + 65 = 1300
      So, 1235 + 65 = 1300
    1. Earning of shopkeeper in one year = Rs 85532
Amount of money he spends = Rs 85308
Total amount  left with him at the end of the year = 85532 - 85308 = Rs 224
    2.  9553
      -3154
      =638
  11. No. of milk packets produced in a year = 130568
No. of packets sent to market = 67843
No. of packets damaged = 14721
No. of packets leftover in factory = Total no of packets produced - (No of packets sent to market + No of packets damaged)
    No. of packets sent to market + No of packets damaged = 67843 + 14721 = 82564
    No. of packets leftover in factory = 130568 - 82564 = 48004

  12. Total no of apples = 567
    Jacob ate  = 34
    Jacob gave away = 89
    Therefore no of apples used 34 + 89 = 123
Total no of leftover apple  = total no of apples - no of apples used
    567 - 123 =   444 apples are leftover with Jacob

  13. Total no of pockets on my clothes = 27
No of pockets on my shirt = 8
No of Pockets on my pants = 14
No of pockets on my jacket = Total no of pockets on my clothes - (no of pockets on my shirts + no of pockets on my pants)
    No of Pockets on shirts & Pants = 14 + 8 = 22
    No of pockets on my Jacket = 27 -22 = 5

    1. Total no. of non-fiction books = 445
No. of books missing = 83
No. of books transferred to another library = 45
No. of non-fiction books are left = Total no of books - ( no of books missing + no of books left)
      No. of books missing + no of books left = 83 + 45 = 128
      No. of non-fiction books are left = 445 - 128 = 317
There are 317 non-fiction books left.
    2. Total no. of books in the library = 2,475
No. of books on loan = 592
No. of books missing  = 137
Total no. of books in the library = Total no. of books - (No. of books on loan + no. of books missing)
      No. of books on loan + no. of books missing = 592 + 137 = 729
      Total no. of books in the library = 2,475 - 729 = 1,746
There are 1,746 books in the library at present.
